Koppertone Vizslas & Wirehaired Vizslas

Dedicated to Excellence Since 1985

Mark & Bonnie Goodwein

Since 1980, we have been involved with this wonderful breed. What started out as a rescue situation has evolved into a dedicated program structured to educate and support the betterment of the Vizsla, Wirehaired Vizsla and the world of purebred dogs.

Our family, Mark, Bonnie, Aaron, Rachel and Daniel, takes an active roll in protecting and fostering the Hungarian Vizsla and Wirehaired Vizsla.

We are actively involved in Local and National Vizsla Clubs as well as Specialty Clubs organized to educate the general public on the history, behavior, health and other information regarding Vizslas, Wirehaired Vizslas and other sporting breeds.

Over the past 30+ years, we have owned or bred some of the top show and obedience dogs in the United States. This includes Best in Show winners, Multiple National and Regional Best in Specialty Show winners, Westminster winners, and multiple group winners. Our Vizslas have shown their versatility by earning titles in the show ring, the field, the obedience ring and the agility arena. In 2012, we brought Minnie (2XBIS, Multiple BISS, Koppertone's Classical Minute) out of retirement and in a less than 12 shows she earned her Grand Championship in Style with 6 Best of Breed wins and 3 group placements from the Veterans class.  (Including 2 Best in Specialty Shows) Minnie is our first Grand Champion and in January 2015 her daughter, "Ditto" (Koppertone's Hott Pants) earned her Grand Championship with Aaron Goodwein on the lead.

In July of 2010 we adopted our first Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla. He is a Hungarian import from the Zoldmali Kennel. Izzy arrived in the US when he was 8 weeks old.  We are currently members in good standing of the Wirehaired Vizsla Club of America and the United Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Association. In August of 2011 we adopted our second HWHV, Vidor's Grace Under Fire. Kenna arrived when she was 8 weeks old and has bonded with pack.

2012 was exciting for us. In May we imported some new lines from Hungary.  We have welcomed Magyarkuti Izes into our home.  She was bred to Luxatori Lang and came to us in whelp. In June, she delivered 7 healthy puppies, 4 boys and 3 girls.  Her sweet temperament and bone substance will enhance our breeding program.  In July our third HWHV will arrive from the Zoldmali Kennel. Olivia arrived when she is 8 weeks old and will hopefully follow in Izzy and Kenna's paw prints as a show and field competitor.

On July 2, 2014,  the Wirehaired Vizsla became fully recognized by the American Kennel club and is now part of the Sporting Group.  On July 4th 2014 Izzy, became the first WHV to earn a Best of Breed at an AKC All Breed Show. Izzy is also the first WHV to earn both a Conformation Grand Championship and a Senior Hunter title. In November he was the first WHV to be awarded an Owner Handler Series Best in Show.  In January 2015 Izzy became the first WHV to be awarded a Sporting Group 1st placement (BIS) at the Rainier Sporting Dog Association Winter show.  In February 2015, Izzy was the first WHV to win Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show and Olivia went Best of Opposite Sex.

In October 2016 Bonnie and I traveled to Hungary and picked up another addition to our pack, REMY, Zoldmali Remek.  By one year of age, Remy had earned his conformation championship and Junior Hunter title.  He is also a NOHS Sporting Group winner and multiple group placer.  In July 2018 Remy earned his GCH. Also as part of our trip to Hungary we brought 5 other puppies back to the US. Brie, Mari, Rupert, Leo and Basil are all actively participating in AKC events. Brie, Mari Rupert and Basil have all completed their AKC Conformation Championships.  In 2019 Remy continued his winning ways and ranked in the Top 5 in All Breed, Wirehaired Vizslas Defeated and NOHS with limited showing.

We have had two litters of Wirehaired Vizslas with puppies pointed from both litters.

2019 brought yet another Wirehaired Vizsla into our family. "LUCY" Zoldmali Lujza. She is maturing nicely and we are looking forward to working her in the field and showing her in the conformation ring.
